As I have stated before there is a few rules that you really need to follow to succeed with RSM.
Rule 1. Budget. If you don't have one already you must set one.
Rule 2. Goal set. Know how you best need to use the RSM saving wisely. Plan what you are going to
use the money for before you have it.
Rule 3. Never give up. If things don't go according to plan at first remember change isn't always easy.
Good things are worth effort.
Rule 4. Plan. Two weeks before you have the no shop week you check items you can't go without. Example I can't go without a coffee, so I look to see I have enough coffee in the house to see me through till my shop after the NO SHOP week. That will be 3 weeks from now. You also check
other food items. The next week you check cleaning and bathroom products you can't go without.
I could make do without bleach for a week, but not toilet rolls. You need to have a list of things
you must check.
Rule 5. You cannot skip Mondays as a shop day, or Fridays you will be setting yourself up to fail.
Their is even a way around this rule if you can't follow this email me and I'll tell you another way.
Rule 6. Be Kind to yourself. This method is set up to help you. If you really can't shop on a particular day
because of whatever reason (as long as it's not rule 5) then don't. This can be adapted to suit your
needs. Say I'm on RSM but it's impossible for me to shop on Tuesdays. Well just set you calendar
going from Mondays to Wednesday and the rest of the week as normal. If you husband likes bread
bought daily, that's OK. You would set aside the amount needed separate from the shopping.
Say it is $20 each week. You then make the No Save amount that $20 less. There are many
individual reasons for not following RSM to the letter. As long as the outcome is still going to be
roughly the same that's OK.
Rule 7. Surplus. You know with all good budgets there is usually a surplus. A little extra for times of need.
There will some weeks when you won't spend your entire budgeted shopping amount. It may only
be a few dollars. What you need to do instead of wasting it. You need to keep it up your sleeve.
When you do the shopping by card it's OK if it just stays in the bank until you need it.
You just need to make a record of how much it is in your trusty little exercise book, for future
reference. Of course if you shop with cash you need to have a safe place for it.
Why do I need it I hear you ask? Well the first time you run out of something on your No Shop
week and believe me it does happen you might just have enough to buy the jar of coffee or
whatever little things you ran out of.
