RSM simply stands for Revolving Shopping Method.
Conventionally people grocery shop either once a week, once a fortnight or once a month.
RSM can only
be achieved on the most common method of shopping which is once a week.
If you don't use this method of shopping (once a week) I will show you with the amount of savings available to you why you should change to RSM methods.
Traditionally' by shopping once a week, you would go on the same day of the week. In fact usually you would go to the same shops to buy your food. You would also spend about the same amount of money and buy roughly the same products. There is nothing wrong with this. Mostly it is because we as humans are creatures of habit.
With RSM you will typically shop every 8th day except after a NO SHOP week when it stretches 2 more days and becomes on the 10th day. Their are a few simple rules you must follow to succeed. When you get to a NO SHOP week you save whatever the amount
is you usually spend on grocery shopping. It is not really going a week without shopping just 2 extra days but you get a full weeks benefit.
So what if I give you an example of how RSM will work for an average family. I will start each example using the 1st shopping day as the 1st Wednesday in June and then follow on in the appropriate pattern that would occur with the relevant method. This is just done for the purpose of the exercise and it is not necessarily the way it needs to be.
Mary goes shopping every Wednesday at approximately 10am and spends $200 on the grocery shopping. Mary like most of us is a creature of habit.
Mary's Weekly shopping habits for June/July 2009.
Wednesday 3rd June $200, Wednesday 10th June $200, Wednesday 17th June $200,
Wednesday 24th June $200, Wednesday 1st July $200, Wednesday 8th July $200,
Wednesday 15th July $200, Wednesday 22nd July $200,Wednesday 29th July $200.
So in a two month calendar period she goes 9 times to the supermarket, does the weekly shopping and spends a total $1800. Every shopping day is 7 days apart. Mary shops for a family of four and they eat
well which is great. It could be better. HOW, by using RSM of course. Here's what it would look like
for our same family on RSM, both methods.
Mary's Shopping habits for June/July 2009 on regular RSM.
Wednesday 3rd June $200, Thursday 11th June $200, Friday 19th June $200,
NO SHOP WEEK = SAVING $200, Monday 29th June $200, Tuesday 7th July $200,
Wednesday 15th July $200, Thursday 23rd July $200, Friday 31st July $200.
This is the same two month period as the last example and Mary has bought the same food as she did with the last example. Mary goes 8 times to the supermarket and does the weekly shopping and spends a total of $1600 a savings of $200. She is also due to have her next NO SHOP WEEK the next week. So another $200 savings is ready to happen. Every shopping day is 8 days apart, except the one following a Friday shop which is stretched to 10 days.
Mary's Shopping habits for June/July 2009 Using RSM Quicksave
Wednesday 3rd June $200, Friday 12th June $200, NO SHOP WEEK = $200 SAVING
Monday 22nd June $200, Wednesday July 1st $200, Friday 10th July $200,
NO SHOP WEEK = SAVE $200, Monday 20th July $200, Wednesday 29th July $200.
This is the same two month period as the other two examples, with a great deal of difference in the results. Mary went to the supermarket to do the weekly shopping a total of 7 times and spent a total of $1400. Mary shopped 9 days apart except for the next shopping day after a Friday which was stretched to 10 days. A savings of $400. She is two weeks away from her next savings. Amazing, would you not agree? Most of us could not have saved $400 in just two months.
Of course it is a little harder to go onto the Quicksave method than it is to do regular RSM. It takes a little preparation to be organized to start with but it's worth the effort. A bit of discipline and by this I mean: follow the calendar, follow the rules, follow the tips. Then you WILL succeed. You probably wonder why there is more than one method and why wouldn't everyone just go on the Quicksave? The reason is I want you all to succeed. Some people are limited by when they get paid. So at first it is just not possible to go onto Quicksave. Others need to build up those few extra meals in the cupboard needed before they start. If you live week to week you may not have an extra 3 meals from what you are used to buying. Whichever is the case you can swap over from one type of calendar to another very easily. You've seen a little of what can be saved with my example of how to do RSM. So if you go to the link, Benefits +Savings guide: you will get an even better idea of what the savings could be for you. Remember if things don't quite go according to plan it's not failure. I just call it sightseeing. You can jump back aboard your journey to success very easily.
